Commissions

Treat yo' self (or a friend!)

If you'd like to commission an artwork for yourself or someone special, please read the  frequently asked questions below and then contact me with your ideas.

  • Do you have a set price list?
No. I price each artwork individually depending on factors such as size, medium and complexity. However to give you an idea of my portrait pricing, I've pulled together a Portrait Commission Price Guide - available on my Home Page (just scroll down and fill out your details). If you're not sure, it's best to contact me with your concept and any reference photos or inspo, so that we can talk about what I can create for you. I always try to give a few options for size and price. I know most people don't like to share their budget - but I'm an open book and I'm happy to consider how to make something beautiful within your budget.
  • What is the process for commissioning an artwork?
I enjoy taking on commissions around my own personal projects, but spaces are limited throughout the year. If I can't fit yours in, please don't take it personally! To get started, please contact me with your idea/concept and any images you have. I generally work from photographs, so in the first instance I'll get you to send me a selection so I can review their suitabilty/quality. This helps me consider the best size and medium. I may be able to assist you with taking suitable photos if needed. Once we've agreed on all the important details (size, style/medium and content), I may request an initial design fee (if required) and/or a non-refundable 50% deposit upfront to secure your space. I'll share photos with you as your artwork is nearing completion so that you can provide feedback. I want you to be 100% happy with your artwork! The remaining 50% (plus postage, if required) will be due prior to posting or on pick up/delivery (by prior appointment - Brisbane, QLD).
  • What kind of photos do you need to create a portrait?
In an ideal world, my customers will provide high resolution photos with great lighting - every time. But since this is real life, most of our favourite photos are on our phones or copied from social media. I can work from almost any photo so I always recommend that you contact me and share your photo/s in the first instance. Just be mindful that the less detail I can see in the photo (e.g. if it's blurry when I zoom in), the less detail I can draw/paint!
  • Can you create one portrait from multiple photos?
Sure can! Before quoting, I'll ask you to send me a selection of photos of each person (if possible) - especially any that are particularly low-quality or older photos. It's ideal to see what I've got to work with early! The colour/tone of each photo can differ greatly, so once I see your photos I'll be able to advise whether colour and/or black and white will be suitable. In terms of the photos - Ideally the photos will be taken from a similar angle to ensure the finished portrait looks as natural as possible (e.g. a selfie beside a regular photo can look strange due to warping/fish-eye effect). Please note: these portraits may incur an additional fee to cover the time taken to create a 'mock' layout in Photoshop. If you're not sure whether it can be done - please don't hesitate to contact me! No obligation to order, of course.
  • What medium do you use?
I use: Graphite, charcoal, watercolour paint, acrylic paint, colour pencils, ink and often a combination of these to produce the right look/texture. Please contact me if you've seen something you like (my own artwork or someone elses) and I am more than happy to discuss the potential to do a similar style for you.
  • Do you paint murals and large scale artwork?
Yes! There's a lot of factors that affect mural pricing, such as access/height, location, wall surface, among other things. It's usually best to start with a chat or an email. Please contact me with your idea/concept, the space/wall size, purpose/message etc. If you're not sure what you're after, we can brainstorm together!
  • What method of payment do you accept?
Cash or bank transfer. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any concerns.
  • Do you frame the artwork too?
I can organise framing for you, with options to meet different budgets. If you're interested, please let me know when you inquire so that we can discuss some suitable options.
  • Can you create portraits from life?
This is something I haven't done much of, however I have dabbled in live wedding portraits! As a wife and Mum of two young kids, I have to produce artworks around a hectic schedule. So at this stage I welcome all inquiries regarding live engagements, but please understand that I may not be able to accommodate this.
  • Where do you ship to?
I am based in Brisbane, Queensland and can post to anywhere in Australia. I welcome international orders, but please be patient while I confirm the postage pricing for you. If you have any concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me.
  • What if I don't want my artwork posted on social media?
That's OK by me! I always try to remember to ask my customers whether they're OK with their artwork being posted online, but if you would prefer that your artwork remains private, please let me know when you inquire.
